Students at Furze Platt Senior School are provided with first class support and guidance. We want our students to feel happy, safe and secure so that they can enjoy their learning.
The House system breaks the whole school into eight smaller units, each led by a Head of House. This provides students with a smaller community with which they can identify. Additionally, the House system provides excellent opportunities for the different year groups to mix and get to know a broader range of people. There is a strong House identity and healthy rivalry between the groups in the many House competitions.
The eight Houses are named after towns on the River Thames: Bisham, Bray, Cookham, Dorney, Eton, Henley, Marlow and Windsor. The Sixth Formers are very much part of the Houses, although do have their own tutor groups. Nevertheless, they are often to be seen in the main school tutor groups, joining in with activities and providing support and leadership for the younger students.
The pastoral system is overseen by our Deputy Headteacher.
Each House has a Head of House who is responsible for the progress and pastoral well-being of their students. Four of the Heads of House also have additional responsibilities within the structure.
The following members of the support staff have a specific pastoral remit:-
- Pastoral Managers - Day to day pastoral matters, routine contact with parents, liaison with external agencies and some mentoring.
- Attendance Officer - First day absence arrangements, contact with parents regarding absences, register maintenance, liaison with EWO etc.
- Parent Support Advisor - Works in close liaison with the pastoral team and Heads of Houses.
Forms will meet every morning each week and are engaged in a range of activities - assemblies, House and team challenges, mentoring and guidance.
The Heads of House work with a wide range of outside agencies to support pastoral care, including the Education Welfare Service, Educational Psychologists, CAMHS and Social Services. Should you feel your child requires extra support, please contact your child’s Head of House. You can find their details on our contact page here.
