Our House System

The Furze Platt House System promotes a strong sense of belonging and community, ensuring that every student is known individually and supported to thrive. It fosters team spirit, collective responsibility, friendly competition, and care for others, while providing meaningful opportunities for personal development.

Built on the two core principles of participation and leadership, the House System encourages students to take part in a wide range of activities, develop confidence, and build essential life skills such as teamwork, communication, and resilience. House Captains and other student leaders play a central role, leading events, supporting peers, and helping to shape the House programme. These roles give students the chance to take responsibility, influence decisions, and act as positive role models within the school community.

Our Houses are Eagles (Green), Falcons (Red), Hawks (Blue), and Ospreys (Orange). Students are assigned to a House from the start of their time at Furze Platt and take part in assemblies, competitions, events, and collaborative projects within their House groups. These experiences strengthen personal development and student leadership while reinforcing the school’s ethos, values, and wider character education programme, helping every student contribute meaningfully to the Furze Platt community.

At Furze Platt, our House programme offers a wide range of events and competitions designed to develop teamwork, leadership, and personal skills, while encouraging participation and a sense of belonging. Students take part in live events like the Halloween Pumpkin Toss and Christmas Reindeer Relay, mini competitions such as Chess Tournaments and Penalty Shootouts, and main competitions including Spelling Bees, Maths Challenges, and creative contests like the House T-Shirt Competition.

We also run mass participation activities to involve as many students as possible, from Fantasy Premier League and football predictions to community-focused projects. Termly sporting challenges in football, benchball, dodgeball, and Sports Day promote physical activity, teamwork, and friendly competition.

Many House activities also support local charities, including initiatives like Maidenhead Food Share, helping students develop empathy, social responsibility, and a strong connection to their wider community.

Achievements and milestones are celebrated in House and year group assemblies, as well as in whole-school assemblies, recognising the efforts, teamwork, and contributions of students across the Furze Platt community.

At the end of each major term, Christmas, Easter, and Summer, all House points are tallied, and one House is crowned the overall winner.

All House competitions are open to every student at Furze Platt, and we encourage as many students as possible to get involved. Competitions offer the chance to earn House points and win prizes, while also providing opportunities for students to demonstrate and celebrate the school’s ACHIEVE values in action.
