Pupil Premium (PP)

At Furze Platt Senior School, we pride ourselves on providing an inclusive education for all students. Our school is committed to raising the profile of Pupil Premium (PP) students and upholding high expectations for them, with no excuses for their background or experiences prior to joining our school community.

We believe that learning doesn’t only begin inside the classroom, and we aim to provide students with a wide range of enrichment activities. We are fully aware that this can mean an extra cost to our parents. Therefore, we aim to support parents on lower incomes to ensure all of our students have access to these opportunities.  However, there is a lot of evidence that shows a difference in results between Pupil Premium and non-Pupil Premium students. Whilst Pupil Premium students are seen to be performing below national averages, Furze Platt is committed to working with students and parents to diminish this difference.

From September 2026 FSM and Pupil Premium eligibility has been changed to reflect the below:

 

1. Targeted FSM

• Criteria: Households receiving Universal Credit with annual earnings of £7,400 or less, as well as those on legacy benefits (e.g., Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance) or with No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF).
• Are also Pupil Premium. PP funding is not ringfenced for individual pupils.

 

2. Expanded FSM

• Criteria: A new category for households receiving Universal Credit whose annual earnings exceed £7,400 per year.
• Are not eligible for Pupil Premium,.
• Will only receive a free school meal. Any additional financial support can be sought via Pupil Premium pp@furzeplatt.net where we liaise with local charities for support.

 

Pupil Premium funding

• Eligibility for those who are Targeted FSM
• Eligibility for those who are, or have been, eligible for FSM over the last 6 years 
• Eligibility for children of those in the armed forces (service children)

 

Pupil Premium +

• Available for those who are Children in Care (CiC) or Previously Looked After (PLAC)
• Children in care to a local authority (for at least one day) and those who have left care in England or Wales through an Adoption, Special Guardianship, or Child Arrangements Order.
• Funding received directly to school for PLAC students
• Each Borough allocates funding differently for CiC.
• Pupil Premium + funding which is directly received by the school is not ringfenced for a specific child.
