SEND Curriculum
At Furze Platt Senior School, ensuring that all young people ACHIEVE begins with the design of an inclusive curriculum. We offer a broad range of vocational and personal development opportunities alongside the more traditional academic curriculum. Each subject curriculum is designed and sequenced to logically and effectively develop both substantive and disciplinary knowledge and skill over time. Adaptive teaching is used in all lessons in order to ensure that the learning is accessible yet challenging for each learner.
In addition to this, assessment is used to identify students where further support is required as part of the graduated approach. These students may undertake additional provisions either during form time or through temporary withdrawal from other timetabled lessons. These provisions include:
-
Small group EAL, spelling and reading interventions
-
Morning Maths intervention
-
Personalised P.E. programmes for named students
-
Social skills group
-
SENCO intervention sessions
-
ELSA
-
Zones of Regulation
-
Morning mentoring with an LSA
-
Raising Achievement Mentoring
-
Connect Curriculum
Students with autism who have Shine named as their educational setting on their EHCP (<5 per year group in Years 7-11) have further personalised provisions in place. These provisions are organised by the Shine Resource Base in place of some academic mainstream lessons. On average, students in Shine will spend 60-80% of time in mainstream lessons and this attendance in mainstream lessons usually increases as the young person progresses through the school.
