Arrangements for Wednesday and Thursday due to heat warnings. Open Tuesday as normal.

Please note: We remain open on Tuesday 23 June during the amber warning with arrangements as sent to parents over the weekend.

The Met Office has issued a red weather warning for extreme heat on Wednesday 24 June and Thursday 25 June. Given this warning and implications, FPSS will be shut to all students as we protect staff and students in line with the guidance provided. The following provides more information:

📚 All Year 7–9 students will be set work online via Class Charts. There will be no ‘live’ lessons as this allows students and staff to schedule this work for the cooler parts of the day. In addition, some of our staff will need to be looking after their own children as their schools and nurseries have closed.

💼 Year 10 Work Experience will continue as normal for those workplaces continuing to operate. However, should the employer close or end the placement early, please keep your child at home. For Wednesday, Ms Stirling will set Careers-related tasks and on Thursday teachers will set lesson work as for Years 7–9.

📝 Year 12 PPEs will be postponed until after next week’s Work Experience. Those scheduled for Wednesday 24 June will now happen on Monday 6 July. Those scheduled for Thursday 25 June will now happen on Tuesday 7 July.

🎓 Rather than Sixth Form Taster Days happening on Thursday and Friday, they will be reduced to one day on Friday. We look forward to welcoming students then.

🚌 Our Connect visit to London will not happen and we will look to reschedule it.

🌍 The meetings for the Greece and Wales trips will be postponed. We will share revised arrangements with parents and carers.

🤝 We realise that this will be a concerning time for some students. Our Pastoral and Learning Support staff will be checking in with students to make sure that they are fine.

💧 Finally, parents and carers know the importance we place on water safety at FPSS. I remind you again of the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service advice on water safety https://www.rbfrs.co.uk/your-safety/water-safety/ that they have shared with our students. Sadly, I read that there was another death in the Jubilee River in recent days. Please do remind your children to stay safe.

In line with the red warning we expect to reopen on Friday 26 June but should that change and/or the red warning be extended we will contact you again.
