You may be a new graduate or someone with a long established career, looking to change direction.

With TEACH MAIDENHEAD, you will do all your classroom experience in two of Maidenhead’s six secondary schools whilst also benefiting from gaining a PGCE at our nearby ‘Outstanding’ (Ofsted June 2024) accredited provider - The University of Reading.

Over 130 Furze Platt students from Years 9 and 10 completed their expedition challenges recently to achieve their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and Silver Awards.

It was lovely to meet so many parents and carers at the transition evening for our upcoming Year 7 students.  

The 2024 ski trip to Andorra is open and spaces are filling up quickly. If you would like to secure a space for your son or daughter of 5 days of high quality, instructor led skiing or snowboarding, along with evenings packed full of activities, please complete the online form via Parentmail along with a deposit which is due by 12pm on 12th May 2023.

Furze Platt in 1963

Furze Platt Secondary School opened its doors on 23^rd April 1963 with 202 boys and girls under the guidance of the first Headteacher, Mr D Whitaker.  Most of the new pupils had come from Cookham Rise Secondary Modern School.  Each student was assigned a House: Babham in yellow; Ferrers in blue; Pinkney in green; and Weldon in red (a tradition still followed today but now named after birds - Hawks in blue, Falcons in red, Eagles in green and Ospreys in orange).

On Thursday 29th January, we held our 2026 Year 9 Options Information Evening.

A huge thank you to our community for your support with our Open Evening. As always, we had lots of families wishing to learn more about our school. Subject displays looked amazing with students demonstrating and sharing their skills and expertise.

Our students were fantastic ambassadors for FPSS with our visitors praising them for their knowledge, enthusiasm and friendliness. I would like to thank and congratulate them for their efforts.

This year's Performing Arts Summer Showcase will feature a range of performances from over 60 students.

Some work has been produced as part of their drama and music lessons and others in extra-curricular clubs in drama, music and dance. The whole evening will be run by Technical Theatre Club who will be the lighting, set and costume designers plus Front of House and Stage Managers.

At Furze Platt Senior School we are proud of the central role our school plays within our local community, but the incredible work the team at Thames Hospice do day in, day out, supporting people and their families and friends at the most challenging of times, is one of the most essential in Maidenhead, Windsor and around East Berkshire.

With the likelihood that all of us will be affected, directly or indirectly, by cancer at some point in our lives, the service provided by the wonderful staff and volunteers at Thames Hospice deserves every bit of support we can give it – particularly as it also needs to raise nearly £40,000 every single day in order to maintain those essential services. It is an essential community facility.

Following last year’s incredible event where teachers were either gunged by students or had their heads shaved (in some cases, both!), we wanted to branch out to an event that would involve students more directly this year. Last year, we raised more than £20,000 for the Hospice, and we want to add to that figure this summer.

This year, on July 11th, we are bringing a version of an old favourite TV programme to Furze Platt – It’s a Knockout! On the day, the ‘We’re a Knockout’ company will transform our lower field into an inflatable arena full of obstacles, games, contests, puzzles and stalls for students to compete against each other in. There will be slipping, sliding, bouncing, throwing and racing all to win both medals and bragging rights, with the best bit about it being that taking part is supporting the wonderful cause that is Thames Hospice.

Students will take part in teams of 12 and will compete in three sessions, one for Years 7 and 8, the second for 9 and 10 and the third for Year 12 and 13. Students not directly taking part in the event will share the experience as spectators for their year groups to help cheer their friends on. There will also be a variety of stalls and events run by our Sixth Form Raise and Give team for non-participants to get involved in and contribute to hitting our fundraising target in different ways.

To take part in the event, we are asking for a minimum donation of £20 per student. This will entitle students to a 2-hour session on the 8 different exciting games available, complete with training, fun warm-ups and medals for the winners. Our event will be able to accommodate a little over 760 students throughout the day, which means we are aiming to reach a target of £10,000 for this year’s event but we hope to raise far more than that.

The day promises to be a huge amount of fun as well as a great opportunity to continue our relationship with Thames Hospice so please give all that you can!

The whole school choir got us grooving with Happy, while the Chamber Choir moved us with Die with a Smile. Incredible solos featured hits from Adele, Mama Cass, Johnny Cash, The Beatles, and more!

And to top it all off? A show-stopping finale with Lady in the Long Black Dress from Sister Act!

Huge congrats to all the performers and the Performing Arts Team, plus our PTFA for providing refreshments - what an unforgettable evening!

Further to our information evening regarding the Summer 2026 trip to Costa Rica, if you would like to Furze Platt Senior School will be running this trip to Costa Rica for current Year 10 and 11 students. We are again partnering with Flooglebinder, a travel and conservation company. They are the first B-Corp certified travel company and are experts in delivering educational programmes that create change for people and the planet.

During your 14-day immersive jungle experience, looking at conservation, sustainability and biodiversity, you’ll have the chance to venture where rainforest meets the sea and discover all things tropical. Plus, you’ll further your knowledge of the Sustainable Development Goals that align with this project, as well as gain a deeper understanding of your own social and environmental impact.

Given the school's own sustainable trip targets, we are confident that this visit can provide the students with an unforgettable experience while ensuring minimal social and environmental impact on the ecosystem. Costa Rica here we come!

This is a reminder of the AGM of the Furze Platt Senior School Parent, Teacher & Friends Association to be held on the revised date of Tuesday 14th February, 7pm for 7.30pm start, in School.  

We will appreciate your attendance very much because to meet the Quorum and for votes to be carried, we require a minimum of 6 non-committee individuals to attend.  

The PTFA plays an important role in the school community and all parents/carers, friends, and staff, as members of the PTFA, are invited to support the AGM. This is your chance to see and hear how the funds you have helped raise have been spent for the benefit of your children at school. 

The AGM is also an opportunity for you to elect the PTFA Committee, who will represent the Association throughout the forthcoming year, September 2025 to August 2026.

Dear Students, Parents and Carers,

Up until Thursday 12th December, guidance from the government was that students would have to select a minimum of 2 A-Level qualifications, with a maximum of 1 Vocational qualification (referred to as AAQs for 2025).  This meant we could only accept students into the Sixth Form with one BTEC/CTEC or Vocational course in their 3 subject choices.

The government's announcement on Thursday stated that, 

"We will not tell providers and students which types of qualifications they can and cannot mix together. It should be for colleges and sixth forms to work with students to devise the best mix for each individual.  We will therefore not be applying the previously proposed rules of combination."  

This means students are, once again, free to select whichever combination of subjects they prefer for their Level 3, post-16 studies.  This is great news for our students' freedom of choice and something the Sixth Form warmly welcomes.

As such, I am very pleased to say that students are now able to pick any combinations of Level 3 course options post-GCSE.  We will be removing the requirement on the Admissions+ platform for students to pick a minimum of 2 A-Levels and enabling them the choice that we have offered in previous years. 

If students have already selected their options and would like to make amendments based on this information, please email sixthform.admin@furzeplatt.net with the details of any desired changes and we can look into facilitating this for students.

I would point out that entry requirements will not change. Students will still need to achieve the entry requirements for whichever subjects they choose.  All entry requirements and subject information can be found in the subject pages in our prospectus here.

Following our amazing head-shaving and gunging event back in March, our brilliant Sixth Form leadership team are organising a festive Reindeer Run for Tuesday 17th December. We have loads of fun-runners signed up to compete over our course around the school site on the afternoon of the 17th. The antlers have arrived and we are looking forward to seeing the different fancy dress outfits that competitors, from Year 7 to 13, have chosen to wear.

We are so lucky to have such talented musical performers here, whether as soloists, part of a group, or playing instruments, they were all wonderful to hear.

The event is for Furze Platt students in Years 9 to 13 and their parents and will take place on Tuesday 26th November from 6pm - 8pm at school in the Theatre and the Main Hall.

So far, 23 universities will be attending and there will be over 40 stands representing a wide variety of careers and industries. It promises to be a very good event, giving students a fantastic opportunity to find out about higher education and a wide variety of careers, and meet and talk to people from the world of work.

You can now purchase your child’s House t-shirt for them to wear proudly on Sports Day and support their House!  With a plain front but their House logos on the back, each House comes in a different coloured t-shirt.

Sizes range from S to XXL, are available in the four House colours and logos and cost just £10 each.  If we order enough and can take advantage of bulk discount options, any profit will go towards our Thames Hospice Charity Fundraiser. House t-shirts can be purchased via Parentmail (Payments – Shop).

To ensure they arrive in time for Sports Day, the purchase deadline for t-shirts is Wednesday 5^th June.
