The department ski trip was once again an outstanding success with both students and staff having a fantastic time.
The boys’ cricket teams have been enjoying a very successful season. All teams are currently 1st or 2nd in the borough cricket league (run by Simon Carter) and the Year 8 team are through to the quarter final of the county competition. The Year 8’s are particularly shining with their ‘B’ team playing in the borough league against other ‘A’ teams and are currently in 1st place. The ‘A’ team beat Desborough by 50 runs and bowled Gillott’s out for 8. Some of this success could be down to the extra coaching they received during the winter from Tom Fray (ex professional cricketer) due to the link we enjoy with North Maidenhead Cricket Club.
The girls have been taking part in the borough rounders tournament run by Charters and have had excellent attendance at lower school clubs.
Both the upper and lower school’s athletics teams put in a strong performance at the Knight Frank Athletics tournament in June and are hoping to qualify for the finals day in July. Particular praise should go to Will Brennan, Rachael Liley, Sarah Hay and Nichole Swaffield who represented the district at the county trials last week. All of them recorded personal best times but Nichole ran a championship record time in the U17 3000m and ran the qualifying time for the National schools in July (selection to be confirmed). Some of the athletics success is due to the well attended athletics club run by Lynda Russant and Debbie Brennan with help from several 6th Formers.
The department would like to thank Mr. Whipp for his help with the Year 9 cricket team.
Katie Tomlin put in a huge effort with her GCSE PE class in the run up to the exam running extra revision lessons; catch up sessions and 1:1 tutoring for the students that were not hitting their target grade.
The first BTEC students finished all of their assignments and the class will have a 100% pass rate, each gaining the equivalent of 4 GCSE’s at, at least a C grade.
The GCSE, A and AS level groups had very successful moderation days.
The 2011 department ski trip is fully subscribed with 51 students signed up to go to Pila in Italy during the 1st week of the Easter holidays next year.
We were pleased to appoint a PE teacher, Fiona Richards, who has just graduated from Chichester University and joins us in July.
