All students have taken the ‘SATs type’ optional tests over the last 2 weeks. Staff are busy marking these and then analysing the results.
Staff will then be focusing upon incorporating: functional skills tasks, ‘rich’ (investigative) tasks and written communication aspects into lessons. These are some of the changes as a result of the new curriculum.
Key Stage 4
There have been additional extra-curricular revision sessions (during half term): Additional Maths (Mrs Fawcett) and GCSE Maths for D to C graders (Mr Lowry).
The GCSE Maths exams were ‘good papers’ for students to improve their grades. We are aiming for 80% with a C or better in August. The Additional Maths paper (level 3 qualification) was perhaps more accessible than last year’s but still rather difficult for the set 1 students sitting it.
Key Stage 5
In Year 12 there have been many additional revision opportunities provided by Mrs Fawcett and Mr Lowry (Core 2) and Ms Searle and Mr Lowry (Decision 1).
In Year 13, there have been lots of additional revision opportunities provided by Ms Searle and Mr Lowry (Statistics 1).
Other
Ms Searle has continued to work with primary students, visiting schools and bringing students to FPSS e.g. maths relay races.
The department will have a PGCE and GTP student next year.
