Many students continue to make excellent progress in reading (Corrective Reading) with a significant number showing increases in their reading age at a level double that of their increase in chronological age.
The revised schedule to deliver the spelling intervention programme (Spelling Mastery) to 24 students has been successful and the programme is now running smoothly.
Students following the Corrective Reading and Spelling Mastery programmes will have reading and spelling assessments before the end of term to assess the continued effectiveness of the programme.
Numeracy interventions continue to be regularly delivered to 19 students throughout KS3 by Mrs Fowler (as identified by the Maths department).
Thanks again go to Mrs Lindsay Lennon, a Speech and Language Therapist from Altwood School, who has continued to support students with difficulties during terms 2 and 3.
The summer public examination season is now complete and a large number of students with special educational needs have been supported by providing exam access arrangements. Arrangements provided have included using a laptop; a scribe, transcribe; extra time and a reader. Thanks go to the TAs who have provided for this support and the Exams office for administrative support.
Transitional support and visits for students with special educational needs joining us in September will continue until the end of term. Students and their parents often find this to be a very stressful time and we are pleased to help facilitate their smooth entry into FPSS.
