Information and Communications Technology
We have fully embraced the Key Stage three ICT Strategy at Furze Platt and adapted it for more creative learning. All pupils in years 7 and 8 are taught ICT for at least two hours a fortnight, increasing to three in year 9, throughout the academic year. Our aim is to teach pupils to become independent users of information technology and to utilise their skills in all their studies at school. All our teaching takes place in up to date ICT facilities using the latest in educational technologies. This includes data projectors with interactive whiteboard facilities to enhance the learning experience, and make the classroom an engaging place for our pupils. We offer a range of qualifications within ICT to reward the individual pupils' strengths and abilities. This is evident with a new exciting qualification called DIDA that requires students to become proficient in the practical aspects of ICT. Students gain opportunities to create, design and produce materials for a specific purpose. In the Sixth Form we offer a wide range of courses - from OCR National Certificate in ICT, AS/A2 ICT and Computing, to innovative courses such as the Oracle Academy. Our aim is for every pupil to leave Furze Platt with the essential skills to enable them to engage in the confident use of information technology in their lives beyond Furze Platt.
