Drama
Drama plays a key role within the Key Stage Three curriculum. In Year 7, 8 and 9, pupils have 2 hours of drama every fortnight. Lessons are taught in the school hall as well as our well-equipped Drama Studios.
At Key Stage Three pupils explore a variety of themes through different drama strategies, focusing on Creating, Performing and Responding to drama. Using improvisation and scripts, the drama curriculum builds and develops their skill and confidence to communicate using different styles and genres. Through topics ranging from Issue based drama to Physical Theatre, Soap Opera to Semiotics, pupils can also develop into critical spectators as well as performers and technicians.
As part of a new Creative Arts faculty, there are also now excellent opportunities for Drama, Dance, Music and Art to work together on joint projects in Year 7, 8 and 9. Exploring art forms from different countries and workshops run by professional artists
Further up the school, Drama is a consistently popular GCSE option course. Post 16 pupils can then take the Drama and Theatre Studies AS and A2 course; several pupils have successfully gone onto study Drama at College and University.
All pupils also have the opportunity to participate in lots of extra-curricular activities. There is a Year 7 and 8 after-school Drama Club as well as productions with the Music Department. Past productions include, "Joseph And His Technicoloured Dream Coat", "Dracula Spectacular", "Bugsy Malone", "Grease" and "Dazzle" as well as straight plays. Past productions include "Midsummer Night's Dream" and "Wind In The Willows" We are hoping to perform "The Wiz" later this year. Regular theatre trips to a variety of venues are open to all and pupils also regularly watch the work of different years.
